Self Sealing Fuel and anti-explosive fuel tanks: Self-Seal ™ fuel tanks are manufactured with a flexible polyurethane (either polyester or polyether) foam with fully open pores, composed of a skeletal network of tiny lightweight interconnecting strands which acts as a three dimensional fire screen.SAFECREST Safety Foam complies to the USAF military specifications B-83054 B and F-87260 A. For higher demands, an anti-static polyether open cell Safety Foam can be applied according to customer requests or specificationsWith SAFECREST Safety Foam fitted in fuel tanks, the danger of explosion caused by gunfire, lightning or electrical ignition is virtually eliminated. SAFECREST Safety Foam also attenuates the sloshing effect caused by centrifugal forces and/or acceleration in fuel tanks, and stabilizes the fuel in tanks of aircraft, military vehicles, armoured limousines, CIT vehicles, racing cars and boats. Fuel displacement is reduced to a maximum of 2 % of the fuel tank's volume when using one of the polyester foam types.The flow of fuel through the open pores remains "constant", since the porosity is constant. Also, there is no problem with either filling the fuel tank or dispersing the fuel. Instead of retaining fuel, SAFECREST Safety Foam passes the fuel at a controlled rate predetermined by the size of the structure of the strands.
